Hi,
My brother used to bite his nails all the time. However, he does not bite his nails anymore. The way my brother stopped biting his nails was by putting chili on the tip on his fingers. Of course he would forget he had put chili on his fingers and he would bite his nails again, but every time he bit his nails they would taste bad and he immediately would remove his fingers out his mouth. Eventually, he stopped biting his nails without being necessary to put chili on his fingers. Since we are going to use Operant Conditioning to attempt to change our behaviors, I was thinking that maybe you can use a technique similar to the one my brother used. That way every time you bite your nails the bad taste of whatever you decide to put on your nails would be the punishment to your behavior. On the other hand, every time you are about to bite your nails and you remember that you don’t want to do that (because they don’t taste good) and you actually don’t bite them you could give your self a little trait as a reinforcement for not biting your nails. I hope you don’t think my suggestion is too cruel. Good luck!!

This is actually how my parents got my little brother to stop biting his nails when he was a child. it might be kind of extreme for some people but it provides results
